3. Unique programmes

1. MASTER STUDIES IN FINANCE

One of the programmes, which might be of particular interest to the students is Programme Master Studies in Finance fulfilling Master requirements of European Union. It is taught in English and it is based on world standards in finance programs.

  • Completed courses in: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Law, Management, and Public Finance

2. MASTER’S DEGREE IN EXECUTIVE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The four-semester, part-time Executive MBA Programme first commenced in 1993 offering executive management general training to mid- and senior-level mana¬gers of Polish and foreign organi¬zations and companies operating mainly in Southwest Poland.

Two years later an international option of the Executive MBA Programme has been launched as a joint Tempus pro¬ject of the following European univer¬sities:

  • Limburgs Universitair Centrum (Belgium),
  • Groupe Ecole Superieure de Commerce Marseille (France),
  • University of Limerick (Ireland),
  • Wroc³aw University of Economics (Poland).

Aims and Objectives

The overall aim of the Executive MBA Programme is to provide managers and executives with an integrated vision of an organization in a competitive economy and to deliver knowledge and skills required to recognize and approach business decision problems, and to solve them in a changing environment.

Course Structure

The Master’s Degree in Executive Business Administration is a two-year, part-time programme commencing in October. It takes place on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The courses are divided into 4 broad categories:

  1. foundation,
  2. core,
  3. integration,
  4. orientation

3. EUROPEAN DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN ECONOMICS, FINANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Details of the programme:

Name of Programme: European Doctoral Program in Economics, Finance and Management

Language of Instruction: English

Duration: 6 semesters

During the first four semesters, students have one one-week (6 days x 8 hours per day = 48 hours) meeting in every semester, that gives in total 192 hours. During the last two semesters students take part in doctoral seminars and advanced doctoral courses only (advanced doctoral courses are prepared especially for individual needs of particular doctoral thesis).

At the end of the second semester (after finishing the required courses), students submit pre-dissertation work, which is evaluated by three members of Doctoral Program Committee. Once approved, students proceed to write and defend their dissertations. Students submit the doctoral dissertation proposal (goals, hypotheses, methods, contents, literature) before the third semester of the study. Content of the Doctoral Study courses concerns contemporary research in particular areas.

4. Polish Language School.

Wroclaw University of Economics offers free Polish language courses for the foreign students. The courses are provided during each semester and have two levels for the students to choose: beginners and intermediate. The course content will help the students to get acquainted with the Polish culture.

5. Summer Schools

Wroclaw University of Economics does not offer Summer Schools.

6. For foreign students

Wroclaw University of Economics provides accommodation for all foreign students in the Universiy`s dormitories. The dormitories are situated on campus and offer unified conditions. The dormitories have single and double rooms, shared bathrooms, kitchen and launderette on each floor. The dormitories have also computer rooms, TV rooms and free access to the Internet in each room. The costs of accommodation are as follow:

- single room – 682 PLN per month
- double room – 341 PLN per month.

Wroclaw University of Economics possesses premises for teaching, research, administration and social purposes. Classes are performed in lecture rooms and exercise rooms, and in computer, chemical and technological laboratories. Rooms are equipped with modern audio-visual aides. Most of the buildings are adjusted for needs of disable persons. Classes for groups including disable students are organized in the most convenient location.

Wroclaw University of Economics has its own:

  • Central Library, which offers 340,000 volume 1,000 periodicals.
  • University`s Computer Centre (access to the Internet)
  • Publishing House (there are 3 book-stores on the campus)
  • University`s Physical Education Centre (with swimming pool, game halls, fitness rooms, aerobic room)
  • Medical Centre located on the campus.

The foreign students are offered a student card. The card gives a discount for train and bus/ tram tickets and for entrance to museums and some of the cinemas. The student card is valid for one semester and then it must be prolonged at the Dean`s Office.

The students must be fluent (at least intermediate level is required) in English (and/or German). Further prerequisites depend on the programme the student chosen to study. The candidates are asked to contact responsible persons, International Relations Office or Socrates Institutional Coordinator.

The study at Wroclaw University of Economics could be financed by:

- Erasmus/Socrates scholarship
- Polish Government scholarship or the student`s home country scholarship
- others (private)

7. Costs

Living costs:

The currency in Poland is Polish zloty (PLN). 1 EUR corresponds approximately to 4.00 PLN.

Approximate living costs per month:

- accommodation: 341-682 PLN
- food: 400 PLN
- local travel card: 40 PLN
- additional reference books: approximately 250 PLN per semester
